Yes wireless devices scan for wifi in the back ground, though i don't think it should eat up a significant amount of cpu, unless your machine is quite outdated. Thank you for the suggestions! an additional great tool for monitoring/tracking down CPU usage, Process Explorer > It's basically Task Manager on steroids > Click the Process column to see a hierarchical view of processes or If you really do have a problem, its really not hard at all to switch back to 32 bit.
