Long story short, make sure to open ADSIEdit _on the affected FSMO Role owner_ and make the necessary changes there. missing mandatory configuration. Note - I did have to replace the generic DC=Domain with DC=myactualdomain in order to get it to connect properly in ADSI edit.Most probably know this but just in case... The DC mentioned in the Event Viewerwarningwas anold Windows Server DC removed more than 5 years ago!
